ENDNOTES
1. Freshmen are required to take BA 101S, freshmen in the BHP are required to take BA101H, and transfer students are required to take BA 101T.
2. Students must have a passing score on the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) in order to take MIS 301 and BA 324. For more information and to register for the
CPT, go to the Instructional Assessment and Evaluation website: http://www.utexas.edu/academic/mec/cbe/cpt.html
3. Students may take these courses after they have declared their major and completed any other prerequisites listed in the Course Schedule.
4. (W) indicates a substantial writing component course.
5. Six semester hours must be completed from the following courses: FIN 376, IB 372 (IB 372 may be repeated when topics vary), and MKT 372.4 (topic: Global
Marketing).
6. Only one internship course may be counted toward the degree. Students’ internship must be approved before they can start logging in the required 160
hours. For more information about the internship requirement, visit the advising website: www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/advising/internship/
7. A total of twelve (12) semester hours beyond the freshman level must be completed in a single foreign language associated with the Area Studies
specialization. IB majors may use various combinations of lower‐division and upper‐division foreign language and the area studies to fulfill a minor. Students
interested in pursuing a minor using foreign language and area studies must see their advisor for approved combinations.
8. A total of nine semester hours of upper‐division Area Studies coursework focused on a specific geographic region must be completed. These courses must be
approved by the IB faculty adviser and should be associated with the foreign language chosen to fulfill the degree requirements. Examples of acceptable fields
of study are Latin American Studies; Middle Eastern Studies; Asian Studies; and Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. The three required Area Studies
courses may be used in addition to a fourth Area Studies course to fulfill the minor if all four courses have the same departmental abbreviation or if the
courses are from departments with cross‐listed courses.
9. All international business majors must study abroad for at least one semester or summer session. Students should study in a country or region associated
with their foreign language and area studies specialization. Ideally, the study abroad experience should be in an immersion program that includes courses
taken with local students. The IB faculty advisor must approve all study abroad programs in advance. Any McCombs program is acceptable if it takes place in a
country in which English is not the dominant language. (The CIBER Summer Study Abroad programs will not fulfill this requirement.) In addition, most
affiliated study abroad programs available through the University’s Center for Global Educational Opportunities are acceptable, depending on the course of
study. Students must complete the equivalent of at least six semester hours during their study abroad period. Credit earned abroad may be used to fulfill
other degree requirements if appropriate. Only one internship course may be counted toward the degree. Students’ internship must be approved before
they can start logging in the required 160 hours. For more information about the internship requirement, visit the advising website:
www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/advising/internship/
